Lucke’s Fresh Food Market is looking for an enthusiastic Apprentice Butcher to join our fresh food team in Bairnsdale.

This is a hands-on opportunity to learn the trade in a busy, family-owned fresh food market with a strong local reputation. You’ll work alongside experienced butchers, learning how to prepare quality meat products, serve customers, maintain high food safety standards, and support the day-to-day operations of our butcher shop.

About the Role

As an Apprentice Butcher, you will learn all aspects of the butchery trade, including meat preparation, trimming, portioning, display presentation, customer service, cleaning procedures, and safe food handling.

You’ll be supported by an experienced team while completing your apprenticeship and developing the skills needed to become a qualified butcher.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparing, cutting, trimming, and packing meat products
  • Help maintain attractive and well-stocked display cabinets
  • Serve customers and provide friendly, helpful product advice
  • Follow food safety, hygiene, and workplace safety procedures
  • Clean and sanitise equipment, benches, cool rooms, and work areas
  • Support the butcher shop team with daily production and stock handling
  • Learn correct knife handling, product identification, and meat preparation techniques
  • Work as part of a reliable, hardworking team

Previous experience is not required, but experience in food retail, hospitality, or customer service would be well regarded.
